Jazz Bear and other Charity Opportunities

Every Saturday in december I have volunteered with the Utah Jazz Bear to go help take under privleged kids to wal mart with $100 gift cards for their christmas gifts. It was such an amazing experience. I got to be the MC for some of them and announce the High School musical Principle dancers and Ro (the choreographer) who came to dance for the kids and teach them some moves just before they got to go shopping.
I got to also be the official photographer! Melissa and Eli got to come visit one while they were in town....and Eli got to me THE BEAR!

Plus earlier I was the Stage manager for a program Mary Kay Huntsman puts on to modivate Teenagers. It is called the Power in You. That was a fun experience as well!

Planting Seeds

So as I was driving home from church I got a call from Brad Johnson (Zack's stand in) saying he wanted Mine and Ro's help with a big Pop Art Andy Warhall thing up at park city in a couple of weeks. Its a fund raiser they are putting on with one of Andy Warhall's old assistants, it is to keep the art programs and art teachers in the utah school systems. I instatntly decided I should go visit Ro and talk to him about it right then. So instead of going home after church I drove to Ro's. His mom was there helping him clean things and she asked us about how the weddings were that we went to over the weekend (one was Vince Powell's and one was Kayscee Stroh's ...she was the larger girl in the High School Musicals both were in LDS temples). She asked us why we just went to the receptions and not the weddings, I explained to her the sacredness of the temple and why that is saved for certain people. She is a Jahovah's witness but always asks lots of questions about our church. She went on to ask about how cealing works, she is a nurse and goes to mainly retired people's homes and takes care of them, she says that if they are LDS they always talk to her about the church, she has even been given a book of mormon almost 10 years ago that she still has. She said that she used to take care of this one elderly lady who has polio and couldn't walk and the lady a few years previous to meeting Ro's mom was baptised and became a member of the LDS church. The lady's husband had past away a few years before the lady started to learn about the church. Ro's mom said the older woman had told her that she could be cealed to her husband for eternity even with out him being alive, Ro's mom (Rosemary) had some questions about that, so I explained that as well. She told me a little bit about what JW's believe happend after you die and I told her about how we believe we get to be with our family forever. I told her about Nicole and how even though she was handicapped when she past away, she would be in her most perfect form and when we all got finished with this life, if we lived righteously we would all be able to be with her again as a family. Rosemary told me that she had twin baby girls that past away just a few hours after they were born in Bolivia. She went on to finish more of her story about the old woman with Polio. She saids through her visits the woman would always say "my wish is to go to the temple, or even just temple square." Rosemary said there was no way she could by herself because she was confined to a wheelchair and they had to always have special wraps around her legs. Plus Rosemary said she didn't have any family in utah to help her get there. So Rosemary decided to help her find a way to take her to the temple square. Rosemary made numerous calls to companies set up to transport patients, but none of them would take the woman unless it was for medical reasons. So Rosemary decided she would take her. So that one day, in the spring, Rosemary pulled her car up to the retirement hospital and helped the woman with Polio into the car and put her wheelchair in the back seat and drove down to temple square. They parked and Rosemary helped the woman into the wheelchair who already had tears in her eyes. Rosemary pushed the woman all around Temple square to see everything, she said it was sp beautiful with all of the gardens bursting with colors. The very last stop she made was to one of the visitor's centers, she pushed the woman in and there was a group of people surrounding and speaking to what she thought was just a tour guide. She manuvered the wheelchair through the group as best as she could when she felt a tap on her back from a cane. She Turned around slightly irratated that someone had just poked her with their cane, and saw an old man smiling at her, he looked at her and said in a gentle voice "You know, the servants will be served." (from Luke 12:37) and she smiled and said, "Yes I know that, thank you" He smiled at her again and then turned back and headed out of the building. She told me she had the most amazing feeling, and she put her hand to her heart and said thats were the warm feeling was. She said as she walked away she thought it was interesting that the man carried a cane, but did not use it. Rosemary notice that the old woman was crying after that and she asked if she was ok and the woman said she was wonderful. After finishing the last visitors center Rosemary pushed the woman to her car and the woman was still crying. After she helped the woman into the car and put her wheel chair in, Rosemary got to her seat and drove the woman home. Once the woman was all settled and home again Rosemary asked why she was still crying. The woman said, "Rosemary, that was our Prophet." Rosemary told me recognized something different and holy about the man that tapped her, she said she felt so peaceful after he spoke to her. Rosemary said she continued to make sure the older woman was able to schedule trips to the grocery store and the mall and especially, temple square, even for the woman to go inside the temple to be cealed to her husband. The woman said that now that all of her children were members of the church and cealed in the temple, and now that her and her husband were cealed, she would be able to be with them eternally. Rosemary said that woman past away about a year ago, and just before she did her and Rosemary had a talk, the woman told Rosemary she knew she would see her after this life again. Rosemary started to cry and told me she knows that she will be a member of our church and that she would see that woman, and most important, that she knew she would be able to be with her 2 daughters again. She said that she always makes sure that her and Ro stick together because family is all that you have. It was such a neat experience for me to hear that, it was something I thought you only heard about in movies. Rosemary says that since I had starting haning out with Ro she always has her clients tell her more about the church so she will know about what I believe. It makes realize again that there is always someone watching, and that we always need to be doing our best to try plant those gospel seeds to everyone we encounter.
